Underlying any successful business is a marketing strategy. For example:
- How do people find your website or business? Aside from traditional advertising methods, there are many ways to attract customers that are low-cost or even free. Do you have a comprehensive strategy that gets you the biggest bang for your buck?
- Next, once a customer gets to your website or business, how do you capture their contact information, so you can continue to market to them and develop the relationship? Keep in mind that the average person buys after seeing an "ad" 5 times. So you must have a strategy set up that continues to put you and your business in front of potential customers.
- Once you have their email address, mailing address, etc. how do you develop a relationship with them so that they grow to trust and respect you? Of course, this process should be automated (yet appear personal).
- Is your marketing campaign and website set up to optimize conversion rates (potential customers into paying customers)? Does it contain many of the "psychological triggers" that have been extensively trial-tested and shown to produce the desired result?
- Once a person has purchased from your company, what is your follow-up marketing strategy? Remember, it is easier to sell to an existing customer, rather than get a new customer. So you want to really maximize your current customers.
- Do you have systems in place to get your existing customers talking about you with their friends - loyalty programs, referral programs, easy tools to encourage word-of-mouth advertising, etc.?
- Do you have polling and survey systems in place to find out what your customers and potential customers are thinking, what their needs are, what they want? So that you can then provide that for them and increase your revenue?
Hi, I'm Ian Patel Thompson. Here's a little bit about my background, so you know that I actually have the skills and experience to back up what I'm saying:
- Educated in England (Swansea University), I have a BSC Honours in Chemical Engineering! I went into the profession for 2 years in Sales and Marketing then left to work for a Direct Marketing Agency in London, UK.
- I then left England in 1989 to work for a Full Service Ad agency in Hong Kong and after 3 years moved to the Interactive arm of DDB Needham Asia where we pioneered the interactive media applications for clients using voice, fax and data.
- Overall, I worked as an Advertising Director in ad agencies in Hong Kong for 6 years. Clients included HongKong Telecom, Scholl Asia, Maybelline, Castrol Oil, BUPA Health Care, Lonbard Insurance, Johnson Matthey, STAR TV, CNN, USA Today, International Herald Tribune, ESPN Asia, Cathay Pacific, British Airwarys, Jardines, and many, many more.
- In April 1995 I met my wife Jini, and I moved to Vancouver, Canada to set up my own advertising/marketing business - Canadian InfoMedia Inc.

If I ever had a client who did not generate sufficient revenue from implementing my advice to cover my fees, then I would refund them their money.
